Primary 5 Science Activities

The Primary 5s studied some exciting science topics this semester

We started the year learning about the solar system. P5.5 was lucky enough to get a chance to visit the Starlab in the Singapore Science Centre for a lesson.

waiting at the entrance

listening to the presenter in the Starlab

studying the phases of the moon. the room had to be completely dark and UV light was shone at the different moons to demonstrate the different phases.

After studying the very big, we studied the very small - cells.

Apart from learning how to use the microscope, pupils also had a nice time doing some hands - on activities. For example, they had a chance to look at their own skin cells.

applying some food dye

putting a sticky tape over the dye

mounting the sticky tape on a slide, ready to be seen under a microscope.

The P5s also studied reproduction of plants and animals, including heredity.

Using the genetic traits tree to classify different traits of pupils in the class.

Pupils identify their own traits and paste the leaves on the classification tree

Specimens are used to learn more about life cycles and reproduction

Germinating some seeds to study the effects of overcrowding

Next term, the P5s will be studying forces, simple machines, electricity, photosynthesis and respiration. We will have more pictures of the activities soon !
